Missouri Waterfowl hunting laws require that all hunters sixteen years and older possess a duck stamp and a migratory bird hunting permit. For residents the cost is relatively cheap. Bag limits for ducks is six. During teal season the daily bag limit changes to four. Experienced hunters and birders know that wearing and having the right equipment goes a long way in having a successful day. The right shoes with enough traction will keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable. Muddy trails will not become a danger. Hats will keep your head and ears warm or provide shade on warm days. Hats with a long bill can steady a pair of binoculars. Dress in layers or bring a change of clothing for drastic weather changes. Experts know that dressing in layers saves time and leads to a more enjoyable day.

Some favorite places to hunt ducks and geese are Eagle Bluffs, Fountain Grove, Grand Pass, and Swan Lake in the North central Region; Marais Temps Claire and Columbia Bottom in Northeast MO; in the Northwest Bob Brown; Nodaway Valley; and Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge; Coon Island; Duck Creek; Little River; Mingo National Wildlife Refuge; Otter Slough; Ten Mile Island in the southeast; and Four Rivers; Montrose; Schell-Osage, and Settles Ford in the southwest.

No matter where you hunt, a person needs to have the right gear and tools. Shoes and socks come first. A hunter needs warm, dry feet to perform his best. They also can shade a person on very sunny days. Bring a change of clothes for weather changes.
