The Great Utility Of The Military Fiberglass Antenna Mast

By Betty Kelly

Some of the most advanced inventions have been made in the service of defending the country. Arms and armament systems have created a powerful industry that may be seen by many as anything but a provider of very useful and helpful materials. New things are constantly being though for use along defense lines and civilian companies tend to study them for more normal marketing areas.

There might not be a civilian commercial use for specific small items in the arsenal and logistics lists for military purposes. However, their materials may have become a byword for the safest and most useful products in homes or offices. One of these items is called the military fiberglass antenna mast, which is very specific to naval or surface warship use.

These masts are also in use at air bases, radar and monitoring installations, communications towers and special airplanes. In the Navy, these are used so that things like aircraft carriers, research boats, and transports can look over the horizon to identify incoming enemy threat or hazardous weather. Thus they have a dual purpose for warfare and navigational safety.

They are of the same family as aerials, but are more versatile in that they can carry a lot of different equipment. The equipment could be radar and radio dishes, monitor systems, satellite and communications linkages, and other items that basically make a ship that much more useful. Their durability is unquestioned because test things before application.

Commercial ships like cargo transports or tourist style cruise ships have a lot of equipment that were processed from the military. For more practical purposes, nothing beats naval equipment when it comes to safety. Manufacturing in the defense sense thus becomes life supporting, a philosophy that is also in use for items in NASA.

Aerials or antenna masts can also be applied to drones, land roving vehicles used for mapping out terrain on Mars or the moon, for deep diving submersibles, AWACS planes and other vehicles. The fiberglass material is good as stable installations that will not be damaged by wind and wave movement. But for other usages than big ships or aircraft, they need to be downsized to the dimensions of specific vehicles.

Commercially, they are also applicable to civilian shipping, which adapts many kinds of military equipment in the naval line. These are the days of crossover usage, and the so called military industrial complex is not adverse to lending special but unclassified items for more widespread distribution. The space industry has also the same philosophy, and many products from the military and NASA have become common, providing people with great utility.

Versatile fiberglass masts have also been adapted for buildings and other commercial complexes. They are also excellent for telecom and internet lines, radar and astronomy structures, which need weatherproof and durable standing installations. Also, utility companies find them another great addition to their complex of material usage.

With this one piece of hardware, a lot of innovative applications have been found. Technical specialists have innovated to turn war materials into the Biblical ploughshare, which is a very humane way to go. For humanity, those things that are practical to use serve to enhance the quality of life of many, which makes war a thing of the past when deterrence and vigilance are maintained all throughout.
