Useful Facts About Gator Hunts

By Gregory Lewis

Most states in America have alligators in large number. South and South East states are the ones that mostly have these creatures. These states include Texas, Florida, the Carolinas, and Louisiana among others. There exist numerous swampy areas in these states, which attract alligators because they prefer living in swamps. Water serves many purposes in their lives.

For example, for the body of an alligator to cool they require water. They also need water for hunting and laying their eggs. The possibility of gators surviving on land and away from any water to swim in is low. In spite of gators preferring to take residence in swamps, other parts of the world are known for having gators occupying other water bodies. The Amazon River in South America is a habitat for very many alligators for example. Below are tips on gator hunts.

In most states in the United States, alligator hunting is a legal activity. Some states however, have made gator hunting an illegal business and whose is found doing so is considered to have broken the law. One may be required to pay a fine or serve a jail sentence for hunting gators in states where the activity is considered to be illegal. North Carolina is one of the states in which gator hunting has been illegalized.

It is vital in states where alligator hunting is legalized for people to procure licenses prior to their engagement in the activity. One can only acquire a license at a specific time of the year. That makes alligator hunting to have a season. Hunting off season is illegal the same way hunting without a license is.

Different licenses are usually issued, and each license comes with a number of restrictions. For instance, a license usually dictates the maximum number of alligators that one is allowed to kill. It also specifies the duration within which one is allowed to continue hunting. There are also very strict specifications regarding the kind of methods that one can use to hunt these animals.

These licenses apply to a specific area. An individual holding a license to hunt in region A may not apply the same license for hunting in region B. One needs to seek for a new license so as to do hunting in a region that is different from the one that the license was obtained for. Other states restrict the number of licenses one can have in a given season. Therefore, obtaining a new license may be hard.
