How Savage The Savageman Triathlon Is

By Leslie Ball

There is a race that will keep you panting nonstop. At one point you are gasping for breath to climb a very steep road and at the other, you are panting for the bicycle ride of your life. Also in another pace, you are swimming as fast as you can. These are the basics of a triathlon.

Somewhere at the Mid Atlantic, at the heart of Maryland, there is a sports festival that every athlete dreams about joining. The savageman triathlon offers a lot of pain, that is, muscle and body pains. And also pleasure, which is the views and vistas of the tracks and courses.

Most specifically, the event is held in Maryland, at the Deep Creek Lake, overlooking the majestic Allegheny Mountains. This is exactly where the swim course is. The bike course, on the other hand is in the Garrett County, where the roads are smooth but challenging. Finally, the marathon trail is at the Deep Creek State Park.

Along the course, they will be climbing the Westernport Wall, which is the most brutal part of the competition. They are to climb the steepest triathlon course in history and if they make it on time, they will proceed to the next challenge. This is the ultimate test of their perseverance and determination.

It is a brutal climb but the amazing scenery, fun local folks in costume, crazy fun signs, and hundreds of tourist spectators make every step worthwhile. The record holder for the savage climb is Phillip Grave with thirty minutes and thirty two seconds. A lot of triathletes are set to defeat that record this year.

Many have regarded this as a legendary sports event because of its savagery and brutality. But despite its name, it is also one of the most warm hearted events ever organized. It is affiliated with a charity that preserves the environment. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is its partner.

The main rule of the race is to finish the race within nine hours. The breakdown of hours include one hour and fifteen minutes for the swim, six hours for the bike, and seven point five hours for the run. If within five hours they have not reached the thirty ninth mile of the race, which is also called the Killer Miller, they will be disqualified from the competition.

Emergency response and race personnel are in every corner to monitor the race. They are tasked to stop an athlete from continuing the race if deemed unhealthy or unfit. Hence, the way to join here is to keep training hard especially for the brutal climb. Another more important reason to stay in the race is the beautiful views. There is no way they will be able to explore the other side of the course if they will give up or get disqualified.

For this year, the schedule will be on September twenty starting at nine in the morning. The distance for the swim course is one point two miles, fifty five point seven miles for the bike, and thirteen point one miles for the run. There will also be an aqua bike which not only the participants will enjoy but also the tourists and spectators.
