A Complete Preview Of The Ping G20 Driver

By Jamie Faidley

Intro

The previous 2 decades, Ping have been seen for their quality golf clubs. The Ping G series have been seen for its great feel and the new Ping G20 is no exception. Ping claims this new driver can be employed by any and all golfers, from the newbies to the professionals. Its look is analogous to all of the other G series drivers, but its main difference is its technical enhancements to help the average golfer to hit the ball higher and farther. The driver has an external weight that may help you launch the ball and it can be switched out after you get fitted for your clubs. Check out our Ping G20 driver review to determine if this a club you'd be inquisitive about.

Overview

On the surface, the G20 is 2 grams heavier than the G15, however it essentially feels lighter when you swing the it. This is typically thanks to the balance point being found to a different place in the shaft. Because it feels lighter, one would be inclined to presume that you'd be able to generate more clubhead speed. But essentially it generates about the same speed as before. Its sweet spot is bigger so it'll help golfers drive the ball better when hitting the ball outside the sweet spot. There's a bent for you to pull the driver though, so position yourself correctly.

The Good

One of the clear benefits of this club is you can align the club head easier. The align mark is firmly visible from the driver and when looking down on the club it is easily noticeable. The feel you will get when making contact with the ball completely different and far better than its previous counterparts. Its balance is better than any of Ping has made before. The balance is different as it feels lighter somehow. The MSRP is only $329, so you don?t have to mean bankruptcy if you would like to buy the new Ping G20.

The Bad

The Ping G20's drawback is that it only incorporates 2 stock shafts. But even that doesn't make a difference since they are the same two shafts the other Ping drivers come in the G series. If what you prefer from your club are far more shaft choices then this driver is not for you. You also cannot get lots of feedback from the club when you mishit the ball. It's also hard to feel where the club head is in your back swing, so the only possible way to fix your position is by videotaping yourself during your swing.

Net Result

The Ping G20 is the better driver than the previously manufactured Ping clubs with its feel, launch angle and low spin. This club is for you if you're a beginning or a medium-handicap golfer. But if you want more feel for your driver, then this driver is not for you. This can improve the driving accuracy and distance of the average golfer, but it may not help much for the experienced golfer. Although the Ping G20 is definitely a step up over the other Ping drivers, its improvement is not truly that great. This driver isn't that special compared against the G10 or the G15, so if you already have these drivers then it is highly advisable that you stay clear of this driver.
