Emergency Survival Kits Are Designed To Save Lives

By Maryanne Goff

In life, many people are taught to expect the unexpected. It does not take a lot of time for things to go from bad to worse, especially when the weather is concerned. One crucial thing that many people forget is how important it is to have emergency survival kits on hand, at all times.

These kits contain a wide variety of items that you would need if disaster were to strike. Having one on hand, will give you a sense of security, that if the worst were to come to the worst, that you family would be safe. There are some people that have a few different types of kits that they place in random areas, just to be on the safe side.

Two places, where you will need them, are in your vehicle, as well as at your home. In fact, if you reside in a rugged area, it is actually mandatory that you have a kit with you at all times. You never know what you will run into, while you are traveling. Therefore, it is better to be safe, than sorry.

The size of a kit can vary. There are some that may be small enough to tuck into your pocket. For example, a small kit may contain a flashlight, a multi-functional tool, compass, lighter, and a whistle. You can carry these modest items around in your jacket pockets at all times. This way, if you do need any of the items, they will be at arms reach.

Most people believe that a survival kit should be fairly large. However, this is not always the case. As long as you have a few necessary items in your kit, it could fit into your pocket, if you want it to. The point of the kit, is that if it is needed, to help you survive, it will be there. A few items you will need in them are a compass, water, food, and a flashlight.

The kit that you travel with, will end up being smaller, than the ones that you keep at your residence. The kit that you use at your residence, is generally stationary. It will contain similar items that your travel kit has, but there will be more room for food and water, to be placed inside of it.

When packing a kit for your home, you want to ensure that you pack enough items that will last your family for a span of three days. Typically, if a disaster strikes, three days of food and water, will suffice for a family of four. The larger your family is, the more non-perishable food and water, your kit should contain.

It goes without saying, that having emergency survival kits, can save your life. Two of the most important places you should have a kit are in your home, and your vehicle. Being prepared for the worst, is better than not being prepared for anything.
