Rules And Language Of Online Blackjack

By Joe Manonn

It is widely believed that blackjack is just a simple game that requires you to having a hand that totals 21 or close to it. This is basically true. However, there are some terms and rules that you should consider when forming a strategy for online blackjack.

The first thing that you should know is the value of the cards. Aces can be either a 1 or an 11 and a hand that contains an ace is a soft hand. All the other cards through nine are simply the face value of the cards. The ten and all the face cards are worth ten.

The game starts with the dealer making two passes starting at his left. There are two different games that the dealer can play. Some casinos require him to stand on 17 and others will allow him to hit soft 17.

Then you can decide what you want to do with your cards. You can hit, receive another card, or you can stand, stay with what you have. There are a few more options that will be discussed later but these are the basics.

There are a few other options that you can consider when playing. Some games will allow you to surrender at half the cost of the original bet. If you choose to do this, you must do it before taking any cards or doing any other action. Also, some games make you wait until the dealer checks his hand for blackjack before you can surrender.

Doubling down is another move that you can make. You can only do this when you haven't drawn any extra cards. Your bet will double and you will only be able to receive one more card in this hand.

You can also choose to split pairs of cards. If you are dealt a pair of cards in your original two, you can split them up into two separate hands. The second hand has to have the same bet as the original hand.
