Epic RPG, The Mummy By BigPoint, Takes Its Standard

By America P. Hammond

There have likely been epic RPGs since the Elizabethan era, but they sure have changed. What we know today as the RPG began as a table game played with funky dice and a map. This table game of sword and sorcery also became the computer game Dungeons when monitor screens were still green. RPG's engendered another type of table game which resembled reenactments as battlefields were created or recreated in miniature and entire wars were played out, skirmish after skirmish, battle after battle, by tiny, painted men and their arsenals. Somehow I can just see men as far back as the 16th century playing this in their parlors, creating the original RPG.

From these games arose LARPs, Live Action Role Playing Games, a kind of improvisational theatre, but acted only for the entertainment of those involved. I can see those 19th century romantic poets doing something like that. LARP-type epic RPGs often involve detailed attire and props.

Technological advancements have taken the narrative RPG into the realm of the epic RPG by rendering incredibly real-looking environments and, starting with just a tease of a storyline, the gamer goes on to create his own battle fantasy.

The Mummy, an epic RPG based on the film of the same name, is no different. Everybody loves the mystery and intrigue wrought at the hands of sorcerers and cruel Pharaohs. This game is located in the Egypt of the 1930s when Egyptology and archaeology were in their prime. The game boasts those realistic environments, and thanks to Unity, an epic gaming engine, it even supports 3D scenes without need for expensive 3D capabilities on your computer. Massive environments spawning millions of minions and deadly characters occult themselves within the labyrinthine tombs. As your jaw drops in awe of your surroundings, look out because your reverie will quickly be disturbed by some denizen of desert death.

Hone characters according to your own desire and dexterity, whether Raider or Cultist, Brawler, Scholar, Priest or Enforcer. Whether you lust for close-combat, or long-range cover, guns, steels or incantations, this epic RPG, The Mummy, has whatever you desire. Weaponry for every style are included in this game, from guns to knives and sword or relics, potions and scrolls. All this RPG needs is you and your individual touch, whether you choose solitary or team play.
