San Diego Golf Courses And Link Courses

By Patty Summers

San Diego Golf Courses can be found located in and around the city of San Diego in the State of California. It is a coastal town from where the State of California grew from and with it, it now includes over eighty courses. Some of the courses you will find in this part of the world are link styled golf courses.

Link layouts offer a challenge far surpassing traditional inland courses as some golfers would say. The reasons for this are many but the number one factor that make them such an incredible challenge is exactly because of their location. When one envisages the coastline one automatically thinks of sandy beaches, gulls flying through the air and with it probable strong wind conditions.

Understanding wind conditions when playing on eighteen hole layouts such as these becomes a study in itself apart. It is best practice to know what you are getting yourself into before taking on challenges such as these. The best way to do this is to study the course layout and prevailing wind conditions on any given day.

With the Internet at your disposal this is easily achievable however playing some of the courses yourself is even more advisable to get a feel for the challenges that await you. It is well worth the exercise to walk the course before attempting to play any of them. This is standard practice for most golfers who are really concentrating on their game.

Ideally it is a game of fun and should be seen in that light should you wish to master even the shortest of par three holes. What may seem like a straightforward hole to play can become tricky with wind conditions gusting around you. The wind factor at link courses offers the biggest challenge of them all and some golfers will prefer to play an inland course when wind conditions pose too many challenges.

A three to five iron would normally be an adequate club in reaching a distance of one hundred and eighty meters but with the wind one would find oneself choosing a six iron or even seven iron to complete the stroke. It is advisable when playing in these conditions to keep the ball in the center of the fairways at all times. Getting stuck in the rough can be frustrating to say the least and can destroy an overall score for the day.

Playing the ball down the fairways is advisable. Strategy becomes all important in completing a round adequately. For golfers with handicaps of sixteen and over it is sometimes advisable to play on a day when there is not too much wind.

However taking the wind factor into account may call for some changes to the club choice you make when playing at San Diego Golf Courses. It is a challenge to say the least as plotting the best means in completing a course of this nature becomes a study in itself. A good one at that as it refines your style of playing which improves your overall performance.
