The Convenience Of Gas Powered Golf Carts

By Todd S. Deller

Playing golf is a sport that is not only fun but exciting as well. The challenge of trying to make a hole-in-one is enhanced when in competition with other players. Today it is possible to go around the course comfortably in one of the gas powered golf carts available. This especially useful when a person gets older and it is harder to walk a great distance.

Originally these carts were geared for electrical power and are still popular in many communities where elderly people live. They are easy to maneuver and are used as a means of transportation to the store and other close locations. In other places gas models have become popular as they are an economical means of off road transportation.

It was in 1932 that the first gas driven cart appeared. At this time it was used mainly for people who had difficulty walking. Although both electric and gas powered vehicles are used on golf courses, the gas model is the most popular. On the course it will hold two riders and their bags.

The unit's motor is similar to one found in a car but much smaller. However, it is possible to modify it to a larger size if desired. Many people, where rough terrain is involved, also add a four-wheel drive and stronger suspension.

While a car's motor must be turned off and on with a key, the cat's motor is controlled by its foot pedal. It is easily turned on and off by this method. This is excellent for the golf course as players are not disturbed by a running motor being turned off and on.

There are numerous accessories that can be added, which will add more comfort to the vehicle. In hot climates many like to enjoy an added air conditioning system or fans. In winter there are heaters available which will keep it cozy and warm. Installing a radio provides soothing music and brush guards will prevent dents and scratches.

Gasoline models can be modified to change the suspension and lift it higher off the ground. This also provides more power. Seat belts are also available for those who wish to feel safer while riding over uneven terrain. In addition, they can even be modified to look like an automobile, such as a Bentley or Porsche.

Gas powered golf carts are now used in many other places besides the fairway. Large airports, for example, use them to get employees quickly from one location to another. Large institutions, warehouses, and other places are using them to transport supplies from one end of the compound to another. They are convenient, take very little upkeep, and work well under any conditions.
