Increasing Your Vertical Leap With Proven Techniques

By Gabrielle Knoss

Make your sports ability soar in any sport with an increase to your vertical leap. We are all jealous of those athletes who seemingly fly through the air in basketball making shot after shot. The good news is you don't have to be a world renowned athlete to make great improvements in the area of vertical leap. It doesn't matter what your current ability level is you can still learn to jump higher and increase your ability in a chosen sport. Those techniques found here can help you achieve a lot of progress with your personal vertical ascent.

You can use an exercise called pylometrics to increase your vertical jump effectively. There are of course many styles of this exercise but they all provide the same results, improved speed and power in movements. All of these exercises are movements that help enhance your ability to generate the kind of power it takes to jump higher. These can all be done using only your own body but you can also use an equipment called a medicine ball if you so desire. A personal trainer can be hired but you may also use a training video to learn these exercises.

It is important that you set goals as you get started working on your vertical leaping ability. Setting these goals should not focus on how high or how long because this can cause some irritation if you can't meet the goal soon enough. The best thing to do is set these goals to meet the types of training you want to do or the diet you'll follow or perhaps the particular areas you want results in. If you set goals you can stick to you will eventually see the improvements you want.

As with all exercise you need to be sure you are doing stretches before and after to avoid muscle strain. Doing this will help you avoid setbacks that can cost you weeks if not longer in your training. Your vertical leap will be greatly influenced by the stretching you do before hand as well as decreasing your likelihood of injury. Legs especially require a good amount of stretching to remain flexible and gain the agility necessary for the work.

It will take time to improve your vertical leap because it's not a simple skill to conquer. Continue working on this skill throughout the life of your sports career. It may feel like you aren't gaining any benefit regardless of how hard you train. You may not notice changes now, but stick with your training and you could see a big change all of a sudden. Your level of consistency is your critical key to increase of the vertical leap. Don't focus on getting better, instead focus on doing your best. Use of these techniques and persistence in your efforts will help you see the results you desire most.
