Advice on Grasping the Rudiments of Golf

By Marc Tangier

A lot of people try for years to become better golfers, but they never seem to be able to make any progress. Unfortunately, they eventually stop playing the game out of hopelessness. If you find yourself in this predicament, do not be too quick to throw away your golf clubs because everyone can turn into a better golfer. You just have to be certain that you are doing it correctly.

At some point, one of your friends probably took you out for a game of golf and you got a few swings in and decided that you would like to learn to play the game properly. However, before you rush out and buy everything in sight, to become a "real" golfer, you need to learn a little about the game first.

With clothing, your primary concern is finding attire that isn't going to interfere with your swing. If you're wearing a tight jacket, you won't be able to swing far enough for those long shots you love to watch on television.

If you are a new golf player, you might want to bolt out to the store and purchase the costliest golf clubs available on the market. However, this is the wrong thing to do if you have not played the game previously. In fact, your first couple of games should be played with rented golf clubs until you know if you even like playing the game. Why place money on something before you are really positive that you like it and want to continue doing it? If you have a real liking for the game and have actually played a few games then you might want to take a look at getting a set of professionally fitted clubs. Even though they are expensive, it is a good investment because of how thick the grip is to the length and how rigid the shaft is.

Balance is the most important element of a good swing. You can't hit the ball if you can't stay on your feet. When you are able to easily pivot around one single point you'll see that it is much easier to hit the ball every time. Your pivot point is generally located 3 inches below the point at which the base of your neck and collarbone intersect. This is the place or point that is fixed and the rest of your body should pivot around it. If you can't seem to keep your balance throughout the swing there are a few great exercises designed specifically for golfers that will help. Be sure to add a few exercises to help develop strength and flexibility too.

It's also important to know what each club is used for, if you want to play a really good game of golf. For example, a driver is used for maximum distance and can send the ball flying up to 230 yards for men and 200 yards for women. A 7-iron is used for shots of around 140 yards and 120 yards for men and women respectively.

Having an ideal golf swing is the key to having a ideal game of golf. Owning the perfect golf swing consists of many different factors. But, one thing you need to do is to have the right aim.

A good grip is crucial for a good game of golf. If you don't learn how to do it in the beginning you will have a hard time correctly it later. You might even realize that you have a bad grip. You will start to get really frustrated when you game does not get better, even with plenty of practice. One thing to remember is that you should never grip the club to death. In fact, you should only grip your club lightly. One of the more well known grips , which is used by about 90% of all golfers, is called the Vardon grip. With this grip, your pinkie should extend beyond the left index finger. You will find that a good grip can make a lot of difference to your golf game.

Whether you make the decision to learn these on your own or get the help of a pro, these tips can help you in the long run. Don't forget that your game will perk up when you are better relaxed. So, don't stress out over the small things. Besides, you want the game to be fun.

So, as you can see, becoming a good golf player is as much about knowledge as it is about playing the game itself. However, it does not matter what anyone says, it is important that you have confidence in yourself because anybody can play golf well if they practice and work hard.
