What To Know About Color Run Races And How To Play A Part In Them?

By Else H. Hackett

Color run races are unique events that inspire people from all across the U.S., and parts of Canada to travel to participate in. Just like the name suggests, these races will add a bit of color and excitement to participants lives in a way that no other race can. To understand how that is so, it is important to understand a few things about how they work, who can participate, and how long they are.

Participants start out the race in white clothes, but they won't remain that way for long. Within just a few minutes, they are barraged with non-toxic blue, green, purple, yellow, and pink tinted cornstarch balls that cover them from head to toe. At the end of the race, participants find themselves in the middle of another blast of color that will cover any little hint of white than might have been missed.

Benefiting local area charities, these races are generally held in cultural and historical regions of each city. This gives participants the option to help their community as they improve their health, and legally paint the town all the colors of the rainbow.

Young or elderly, short or tall, walking or running, it doesn't matter - anyone can participate in a color run. Registration is generally a simple matter of finding the race website, choosing a city, creating or joining a team, entering standard race form data, and paying the registration fee. Registers can also contribute to the local charity of choice, if they wish.

In addition to running in the race, there is the option of joining as a volunteer with the color bomb squad. Volunteers with the bomb squad throw the color bombs on runners, often friends and family, rather than being bombed, which is another advantage this position boasts.

Color run races generally start at 9am, and five minutes later the color squad starts bombing them five minutes afterward, and continues until the end of the 5k run. Then, the contestants can throw handfuls of dye on one another, and maybe even a few family members of the squad who have it coming, until they feel satisfied. Drinks, food, music, and sponsors are located at a safe distance from the colorful war zone.

So, the next time you are looking for a fun and healthy way to spend a day, with the kicker of helping a local charity, do a color run. It is certain to be something you and your loved ones will never forget!
