Why I May Need a Commuter Bike

By Rob Sutter

It's pretty astounding once you see the perks of leaving an old job. The scenery around you changes in an instant and it offers you the chance to broaden your career path. However, it could also make you see that it might be time to put money into tools you wouldn't have done before. I was more active in the physical sense at my former place of work and I feel like one of the best ways to keep in shape now is to put time into a commuter bike.

The main focus of a commuter bike is in the ability to utilize it while going from place to place. Many bikes are more suited for rough terrain while others are simply used to travel; the bikes used to commute fall into the latter. Not only do these bikes work well when it comes to moving between areas but they're great in the way of camaraderie. Biking authorities such as Linus will exemplify this point, focusing on crowded cities in which it may be in the better interest to bike as opposed to drive.

I feel like a commuter bike would suit me the best because it feels like I'm always headed somewhere. I rarely get a chance to dive into my own hobbies since I'm almost always on the move, so if I'm doing that, what's the point in using my car if I can get in shape in another way? I used to love biking when I was younger but the fact that my old bicycle was stolen from my house one night soured me to the idea just a bit. Maybe it's high time that I look past that and try to get back in the game.

As much as I am excited about my new job, I'm not sure how easy it will be to keep in shape. My former place of employment continuously placed menial tasks onto my lap and I had to perform them physically. I kept in decent enough shape that way but maybe with this new job, I can truly feel the burn. I can take advantage of my weekends off and set off to bike during mornings and afternoons, since that is a good way to simply keep one's body fit. For someone like me who finds himself in a sedentary lifestyle, this may just be the best idea.

There are two main positives that can come out of commuter biking: it offers a form of travel as well as a means of exercise. Many people who frequently bike from one place to another may simply see it as a way to move between spots. While this is certainly true, there's also the fact that it can keep one's body in check. I'm sure that after a strenuous biking session, one can't simply ignore the burning sensation in his or her legs and that's where I feel like a sense of accomplishment can spawn from.
