Great Tips To Teach How To Be A Better Golfer

By Jeff Peterson

Some sports provide simultaneous relaxation and physical activity, golf being one of them. Golf is both physically challenging and relaxing. On the other hand, playing golf incorrectly is a big pain. Add these pointers to your repertoire and watch your golf game flourish.

Shake things up a little the next time you are playing golf with friends by adding a reward into the mix. Make the prize a round of drinks, or even a full meal. You can spice things up further by making each putt matter in addition to the overall scores. The reward can be inexpensive but can help to spice up the game and make it a little more interesting.

One of the more common golf problems is the slice, but practice makes perfect. Slicing is caused by a clubface hitting a ball in a way it shouldn't, which causes the ball to curve towards the right. In order to fight this, keep the core of your body in line with your chosen target at the point of impact. Avoid using your shoulders or body as you start your forward swing. Instead, rely on your hands and arms.

Before you take your shot, make sure that you align the rear of your forward facing foot with the ball. For most of your shots, you will want your feet to align with the ball. Imagine that you are making a triangle with your feet and the ball acts as the top of the pyramid. The only time it should not be in the center of your swing is if your ball is lying on a slope.

A great technique for bettering your swing is to make the most of your entire body weight as a means to gain additional power. Beginners believe that the strength in their swing comes solely from the arms, but the truth is that using only your arms will give you a very weak shot. It's more efficient to gyrate your whole body to match the club's motion.

For long putts, concentrate on hitting the ball with the correct speed. Don't shoot for the hole; shoot for a target just short of the hole. This will increase the chance of a short second putt by helping to ensure your putt is not too long or too short.

Always let your fellow players know what brand and ball number you are using prior to teeing off on the first hole. This ensures that even if two balls land close together, you will hit the right ball and not be penalized for a needless mistake.

Always keep your focus on the golf ball. This rule applies to many sports, but this is particularly true for golf. As such, keep your eyes where they belong during the swing and don't get distracted.

Fortunately, improving your game isn't that hard. When it all comes down to it, developing that solid swing while adding skill in the areas of focus and patience is vital. Put the information you've received here into practice to better your game, and have fun while doing it!

When you are at the driving range doing warm-ups, start your sessions out with lofted irons in the 8 or 9 range, or even your pitching wedge. These clubs tend to be easier to hit, and get you in a good rhythm as your build your confidence toward swinging the tougher clubs in your bag.
