Why City Bikes Video Games Should Be Made

By Rob Sutter

When you're talking about video games revolving around athletics of any kind, I can't help but notice a few classic conventions. There are a few common types but cars themselves seem to stand tall due to their fast nature that's been engineered. However, how many games have you come across that had city bikes as the main focus? Those kinds of titles deserve to be created because I think they'd be an interesting take on athletic games and how they've been created beforehand.

Upon hearing the name of city bikes, I'm sure that you have something of an idea, at least, as to what these kinds of vehicles would entail. I could imagine such a game taking place in Manhattan, for instance, with crowds of people being seen. After all, these bikes have been used to move about from place to place without putting up with traffic, which can drastically impact speed otherwise. Even though authorities on the matter, Linus Bike included, exist, what could be the object of the game?

As far as the more recent games go, there seems to be more of a focus on missions to be done. It doesn't matter whether it has to deal with the amount of miles ridden, for instance, but such goals have to be met in order to open up other missions to tackle. I think that this would be the focus on such a game like this. People would have to work through masses of traffic and pedestrians while trying to achieve what's detailed for them.

Customization would be another option to cite and I don't think this game would be complete without the opportunity to modify your own bicycle. This can be done in various ways, from perhaps changing spokes to simply altering the look of your ride. Depending on the level of experience and how much they'd like to toy around with the bikes, it can be as user-friendly an experience as the player desires. Being able to modify is something that belongs in just about any athletic title.

I enjoy video games as much as anyone and seeing city bikes being used in this way certainly has potential. I don't know if a pure racing title would be the smartest idea, considering how cars have done them better in the past. However, that doesn't mean they're out of creativity since I feel like the developers who are intelligent enough can program something special. They just have to modify elements so that players have more control over their environments.
