The best UK gold courses

By Al Johnson

Golf tourism is extremely popular and Britain can offer the keen golfer some truly amazing experiences out on the course. Wherever you decide to go in Britain, you can be guaranteed some great golf at world famous courses. And even better, with the popularity of golf on the rise many clubs and resorts are making some fantastic golf offers to entice the keen golfer to these shores.

Golf gives people the chance to get out into the countryside and enjoy one of the world's most popular sports. Another attractive element of golf is that, thanks to some golf offers, it is possible to play at one of Britain's best and most famous golf clubs and resorts. Therefore, whether you want to play at Celtic Manor, The Belfry or even St Andrews golf offers can make it a reality.

Undoubtedly, the best golf club and resort in Wales has to be Celtic Manor. The venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup this resort boasts four bars, six restaurants, a spa, two health clubs, golf training facilities as well as unparalleled access to the Celtic Manor course. If golf is not to your liking then there are cycling and nature trails as well as clay pigeon shooting and tennis.

Celtic Manor is not the only place to play golf in Wales, however as there are more than 200 courses spread throughout the country there is plenty of choice. From some excellent links courses to challenging inland ones or golf courses closer to the urban centres, Wales may not have famed courses like St. Andrews or the Belfry but it does have some lovely and challenging courses.

Carnoustie is also a wonderful place to play golf. It is not only one of the oldest golf courses in the world but also recognised as one of the toughest. The links are open to everyone making it a very popular place despite the wildness and ruggedness of the surroundings. The Golf Hotel and Spa provides everything for the discerning golfer including some tempting golf offers.

The first recognised Welsh golf club was established in Tenby in 1888 and golf can still be enjoyed in this stretch of West Wales. LPGA events have also been held at Machynys Peninsula and both these resorts have some great golf offers.

There are three courses within the Mid Wales region and whilst not having the grandeur or the fame of The Belfry and St Andrews, they do offer attractive golf amid fantastic scenery. This is ideal for the golfer who likes to get away from it all and just wants to enjoy golf in peaceful surroundings. The golf offers available from this area of Wales are exceptional.

A trip to Britain then is a must for a keen golfer. Whichever part of the country you find yourself in, you can guarantee that you are never very far from a golf course. There are thousands of golf courses throughout the country. Big, small, private, public, world-famous or obscure, there's something for everyone. Not every course can offer the amenities of the famous courses but with the astounding number of quality golf offers around it makes playing in Britain a real pleasure.
