As you sit on your couch, completely out of shape, shoveling junk food you wonder how you will possibly become fit again. Nobody said that getting in shape was going to be easy. Eating healthy and exercising are just a couple of the commitments that you will need to make in order to get fit. As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. You need to take it one step at a time. One of the first things you can do it ditch the car and use a commuter bike instead.
There are people that just wake up one day and just flip the switch. They eat healthy meals that consists of poached chicken with boiled broccoli and go through vigorous workouts at the gym. I was one of those people. However, having worked as a personal trainer for a period of my life, I can tell from first-hand experience that it's not for everyone. It's all about progression.
You need to begin with small steps. When you learned to drive and got a car it seemed like it became the only route of transportation. Whether the distance was far or extremely close, it seems like the car is the only route of transportation now. If you find your inner-child and walk or take a commuter bike, you can easily get to your location while getting some exercise and not actually paying any money for gas.
At one point exercising wasn't as big of a necessity. New technology has made things easier to do and that is a problem because easier usually means lazier. Instead of using a bicycle or walking, people drive. People sit on a riding lawnmower instead of using one that they need to push. They can even spend a whole day of entertainment without even moving from the couch. They are able to watch television, movies or even surf the web.
Getting in shape is as tough mentally as it is physically. The first step is actually getting up off the couch and saying I'm ready to do this. By doing that you are agreeing with yourself that you are going to do all the things necessary to live a healthy, fit life.
