Newbie Motorcycle Race Riley Dawe

By Jennie Sandoval

Riley Dawe is a 25 year old motorcycle rider from Toronto, Canada. His company, Hill Dawe Racing, was opened in 2009 and he is committed to promoting the sport of motorcycle racing. He has a dream of becoming a professional motorcycle rider and is well on his way to achieving this dream.

Men have enjoyed extreme sports for longer than anyone could have imagined. In ancient Mexico, Mayans played a game with a 9 pound rubber ball in which they beheaded the losers. In Rome soldiers made slaves play a game where they ran in front of elephants that carried men with spears; less than 2% survived. In Vanautu, still enjoy land diving; members attach a vine to their leg and jump from a one hundred foot high platform. Today, motorcycle racing is only one of many extreme sports including snowboarding and bungee jumping.

Motorcycles are powerful, two wheeled, motorized machines. The first motorcycles were built in the late 1880s and riders have been racing them for over 100 years. Today there are many different types of races, including Motocross, Ice Speedway, and Superbike Racing. This last category is the one that Riley competes in; Superbikes are modified production models rather than the prototype machines that are used in some other motorcycle sports. Since they are modified from original bikes many people consider them to be a great promotional tool.

Superbike riders consider Superbike World Championship the most important race. Racers come from everywhere to compete in these important races. Since 2009, Riley has been competing Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) at the amateur rank. The CSBK is the Canadian Superbike branch for these competitions. They are tasked with making sure that the races are safe and that the fans have a good time.

Riley started motorcycle riding when he was young but didn't compete in his first Superbike race until 2009; that year he placed 13th in Novice 600. A few short years later he rocked to an astonishing 2nd place finish Shannonville Motorsport Park when he entered the Amateur Superbike race. This is an impressive achievement for this talented young rider.

Riley has a devoted team. His father, Brian Dawe, is a crucial figure, and head engineer, for the Hill Dawe racing group. He is responsible for the bikes, and his son, and makes sure they are always prepared before every race. Riley also credits Jim Hill as being one of the main factors in his quick rise to success.

In 2013, he not only had the engine rebuilt on his 2009 Yamaha R6 but he also purchased a 2012 BMW S1000RR. He decided to complete the entire MOPAR CSBK National Series in two amateur classes; the AM 600 and AM Superbike. Winning these two championships would go a long way towards establishing him in the industry. Ambitious plans for an ambitious and driven young man.

Riley Dawe is obviously a hard working, focused racer. His speedy rise within the beginner circuits demonstrates that he is someone to watch. He has also been a captivating figure in his home town of Toronto. He has many enthusiastic fans who share his love of racing.
