When I Heard About The Color Run San Diego Was Hosting, I Was Positive That I Had To Participate

By David M. Dalie

I have to tell you about how totally excited I am about the color run San Diego will be hosting in just a few weeks. The color run is a 5k run that features participants running much like many other fun runs, and parts of the proceeds even go to charity. The big difference between the color run and all of the other runs is that every fifteen minutes or so, there is a Color Bomb Squad that stands at the sidelines and showers all of the runners with vibrant colored powder.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, I confess that I am spending these few weeks getting into my peak physical condition, so that I can show off my taut muscles in all the different colors. I have also begun a search for a nice outfit to wear that would be comfortable and also show off my muscles. One thing I know is that I have to wear a white shirt so that it will show all of the colors, and it will be something that I can keep as a keepsake to remember the wonderful time I had. For a minute, I thought I should wear some white shorts as well, but when I looked in the mirror, it looked a little strange, so I went with some black shorts instead.

After buying some white shoes and socks, I felt that I was ready, but I decided that I might further explore the world of color and bought a book on color theory and some oil paints that I could use, I set about educating myself about the wonderful colors that the human eye can experience. I began an experimental painting that involved gradients of color, including purple, red, blue, green, grey, and pretty much anything else that I could possibly imagine until I did not think any more combinations were possible.

Now that I have finished mentally planning for the upcoming color run San Diego residents and visitors will enjoy, I am learning more about what manner of things I can expect from my experience. On fact that I have gleaned is that the colored power tossed at participants is in reality colored corn starch that is not harmful in any way.

I was actually a little disappointed to find that it was such a mundane substance, but when I reexamined photos of previous runs, my disappointment floated away like so much cotton fluff. The colors were just so compelling to me that I wanted to sit and study them for hours. Although I have really high expectations of this 5k color run, I do not believe that it will disappoint me in any way.
