Paganism, Witchery, Gambling

By Gregory Brooks

Do you repeatedly wear that black shirt for every interview? Alternatively, are you in the habit of using the same ballpoint pen while taking an exam? Do you say the same prayers before you do something new? Can you say how many people do such things?

From the early days, people have come to the belief that there are some actions, which are blessed and if they repeat them, they will be able to sway the outcome of other events. This is something that you can observe in all the countries and continents. It is something that has influenced every civilization. The first societies were filled with spirituality, witchcraft, and religious rituals. These were used to achieve the goal. The means were different but the aim was to use the peripheral force to help in succeeding in various jobs that were needed to be done. Those who did not believe in wonders called it superstition.

Even after all these centuries, men have not quit believing in superstitions. The variants have increased manifold, even though we thought modernism would weaken these infirmities. This is something that was unexpected. Modern day gambling is not free from these idiosyncrasies either.

Gamblers have resorted to superstitions from the very first game ever played. Each time a player scores a win, he tries to attribute it to an external cause or existence that may have aided him in throwing the chances in his favor. In many cases, gamblers carry on the same beliefs from previous generations, believing that a certain ritual which helped his predecessor would help him as well. Additionally, there are general superstitions that every player believes in.

Let us examine the superstitions. It is believed that it is unlucky to enter the casino through the front gate. It is also bad luck to keep your legs crossed while playing. Counting your money during a game will bring you bad luck, according to the beliefs. If the player has not subscribed to the superstition he relies on, he will lose the game. He then becomes more superstitious and refuses to realize that it was his subconscious that made him lose the game.

Going further, nowadays even sophisticated rituals are performed before games, with some of them constituted by prayers. People use witchcraft to cast spells on opponents before the game. Players believe that rituals have the ability to wean away the energies of their opponents, leading them to make a wrong decision and lose the game. Quite surprisingly, they have shown results on a number of occasions as well, thereby leading more players to take up similar activities.

Superstition is growing rapidly, that nowadays there exists a group of people who are setting up new professions to meet this demand. Spiritualists, magicians and more are nowadays taking advantage of the situation and making quite a lot of dollar out of it. Therefore, most of the earnings of the gamblers go to these wizards.

While believing some things will bring you fortune is OK, it is very important not to get obsessed with such beliefs. Obsession can lead to paranoia, which finally leads to addiction. For once, if the lucky charm isn't in your possession, you are bound to fail, and end up losing a lot of cash in the process. So keep the beliefs to a limit, and play a good game using tactics and intelligence. These will stand you in good stead during gambling.
