Why Use A Dust Mask For Outdoor Sports Enthusiasts

By Michael Dennis

The enjoyment of motorized outdoor sports has risen dramatically and with it inexperienced people are becoming familiar with the grime that invades the respiratory system. By using a dust mask for ATV and dirt bike riders, the overall experience is improved on. These masks are created for every age and offer a wide selection of basic styles to best suit the needs of the person using it.

The act of inhaling allows direct access to the internal structures of the body. Common dust particles, fumes, even the temperature of the air can lead to irritation to the respiratory tissues. Many people labor under the misconception that a moistened bandana will do the trick.

People who suffer with medical conditions, such as asthma or COPD, can have more problems dealing with the air quality when involved in outdoor sports. Air pollutants or cold air can cause the sensitive tissue of the respiratory system to become inflamed and constrict, making it difficult to breathe. In cold climates, inhaling the air can cause a drop in core body temperature of about 35%.

People who do not use a mask while participating in motorized outdoor activities are known to continue coughing up the grime from the terrain for a few days after the fun. In cold climates, snowboarders and snowmobilers are more likely to develop a cold or the flu without the use of proper face protection. These type of set backs can drastically cut into the fun for the season.

These masks are also being commonly used by professionals such as painters, farmers, and woodworkers as well. The breath of a hunter is also masked with the use of one of these units, providing the edge that is very coveted for greatest results. The mask prevents pollutants from entering the body, and normal scents from the breath passing into the environment to warn prey.

Most masks are made to be easily placed and removed, with the use of Velcro straps. There are also carbon filters to clean the air being inhaled into the lungs. The exterior is common formed from neoprene or other similar material for the best fit. Most units are designed to be dismantled and cleaned to extend the use and life of the mask.

A dust mask for ATV and dirt bike riders is highly recommended by outdoor enthusiasts. This one piece of equipment can also prevent many medical complications which will ultimately limit the enjoyment of outdoor fun. These are made for men and women as well as all ages and sizes. The color selection is wide and ranges from pink to camouflage, so there is something for every taste and preference.
