A Basic Guide In Buying Golf Sets When Starting Out

By Lester Willis

It is a must in any sport that you play that you know the basics, the rules, the dress codes and the like. Another thing is the value of knowing all the things that you will need in playing in the game. As such, in golf, the equipment that is of prime importance can be summed up in one term of two words: your "golf set".

There is different equipment used in playing golf, and among those are the different clubs that are present in your golf set. These will be the physical aids that will help you in being better everyday while playing on the golf course. Moreover, your golf set can have a number of 14 to 16 clubs all in all. For a beginner like you, it will be better to start with a few clubs in order for you to familiarize each club better.

However, before you even think of buying, you must first know the things that you should look for in your golf set. You should know what are the inclusions in a set. Your golf set should have these clubs: irons, woods, wedges, putters and hybrids. Moreover, you must know that there are different types of irons, woods and wedges.

Most golf club sets will contain these clubs (14 to 16):

?Irons 2-7 (6 clubs) ?Woods 3, 5, and 7 (3 clubs) ?A driver (1 club) ?A pitching wedge and sand wedge (2 clubs) ?A hybrid ?A putter

In your golf clubs, you will need the irons for short shots. The golf irons are divided into two types: the cavity back blade and the forged blade clubs. A beginner in golf will most likely benefit from using the cavity back blade. Moreover, you should also consider choosing a graphite shaft for your irons since they can help a lot in having greater accuracy. On the other hand, stiffer shafts are more of a pro's iron.

While if you are aiming for longer shots, you can use the woods and/or the drivers since these clubs were engineered for that purpose. For a beginner it would be a better choice to use large head clubs since this will increase the chance of accuracy in a swing.

Your putters will be of great use for you in the game since you will be using them most of the time while playing on the course. It is good to know that there are different types of putters, but most golf sets only have one in it. Thus, it is already on your part to look for the other types and determine which putter will work out best for you.

Moving on, wedges are good for shots that are out of the range of the putters and they are also just irons with a loft of more than 50 degrees. They can be classified as pitching, sand and lob wedges. For most professional golfers, pitching wedges and sand wedges are of more use on the golf course.

If you want to have two functions in one club, you will need the hybrids since these clubs are crossbred between the long iron and a wood club. Therefore, the hybrids are highly specialized for great performance in distance control and accuracy. The perfect choice for beginners is a hybrid set where the long irons (-3 and -4) are replaced with utility club design.

Finally, before you go towards the golf course, you still need one thing: your golf bag, unless you can carry the 14 clubs all with your hands. It is a good thing that most golf sets already have golf bags with them, but you still have the liberty to buy your own golf bag or even your own golf cart later on.
