What Jogging Can Do For You

By Andrew Tucker

When I was a kid, jogging was just becoming the popular way to get into shape. Everyone was joining the craze. Companies capitalized on the popularity by creating an array of accessories to augment and facilitate the routine-from walkmans to specialized clothing. It was so popular, marketing firms used joggers in a myriad of advertisements to capture the audience's attention. Even though jogging doesn't have quite the punch and popularity of being "the" form of exercise, the advantages of starting a healthy jogging routine are still as pervasive as ever.

The myriad benefits inherent in jogging are enough to fill a dozen articles, so we will be brief. First of all, you can lose weight very effectively when you jog. If you are particularly out of shape, naturally, you will want to go more slowly, so you do not hurt yourself and pull something. As you go on, though, you can increase your speed and start to get into a regular jogging routine that will really benefit you in the long run, and it won't be long before you are running for miles at a time in the park on a daily basis. Just try running one mile or a half mile as you start out, so you can take baby steps and work up to your preferred level of fitness.

Toning your body is one more benefit of jogging, which can help you keep your muscle and bone density. This can also help you find the best ways to stave off osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis rarely plaques the bones of runners, even as they age, because jogging strengthens and tones bones and muscles-a key factor in averting bone and muscle loss later in life. In addition, stroke and heart disease rarely affect joggers. Jogging creates a top-notch cardiovascular system by getting the heart pumping and blood circulating.

As mentioned cardio is one of the main benefits to jogging, it helps your heart stay strong and your blood to keep flowing, something that is helpful in the bid to stave off heart disease or strokes. As well as this is a more less known benefit, that is the mental aspects of jogging, there are in fact studies that show people who regularly jog have a better outlook on life, it may seem off to think but the fact is when you get outside and go for a nice 2 mile jog you feel a lot better after it, as well as the health aspects you feel like you accomplished something, even if you cannot run outside thanks to harsh weather conditions you should certainly invest in a treadmill or join a gym so you can use theirs.

Even after running my daily one mile routine, I have a renewed sense to take on the day. If bad weather prevents me from taking to my routine, I jump of the treadmill and conquer my workout indoors. While the benefits and long term effects of jogging on the body and mind are immeasurable, make sure to speak with your physician before starting any exercise routine. Approaching jogging in a healthy and mindful way is key to your long term success!
