By Craig Thomas

No matter how long or how little you have been waterfowl hunting, unless you have tried your luck in the great state of Texas you have not experienced some of the best hunting in the United States. Approximately 90% of the entire population of waterfowl call Texas home in the winter making the lone star state an enticing hunting destination during the primary hunting season.

If you and your buddies are looking for an outdoor hunting experience there are many highly reputable hunting guide businesses available. One of the quickest and easiest ways to do some research on the services and locations that are available is to search for hunting guide business on the internet. Once you have found a couple of you can book a hunt or ask for further information via email and save yourself a lot of time rather than spending hours on the phone.

There are a number of items you will need to obtain before the day of the hunt. Get a 12 gage or 20 gage shot gun depending on what the guide recommends and the proper license for hunting. You will also want to get hip waders which can also be used for fishing and camouflage clothing that will protect you depending on the weather you will be hunting in.

Most all guided waterfowl hunts pride themselves on the expertise of their guides and the expanse of the territory in which they will provide for hunting. Sometimes it is just necessary to move hunters from blind to blind or to a different lake, prairie, or marsh because that's where the birds are! Transportation can very from jeeps and trucks to airboats and 4 wheelers depending on the terrain of the hunting grounds.

In Texas the hunting season for waterfowl is during the colder part of the year. Wearing the right attire for cold weather is important for your comfort and enjoyment of the hunt. Dress comfortably because you can expect to sit for long periods of time.
