Who Is The Best Tennis Player Of All Time

By Gregory Brooks

Tennis is played by both genders, and both are known to have succeeded. When played by a single player, he or she could go for the Grand Slam. Alternatively, tennis could be played in pairs. This variant is known by the name 'doubles', which have a mixed version as well. When asked to rate the most talented tennis player of all time, you will surely come up with names of Ilie Nastase, Pete Sampras, Margaret Court, Roger Taylor Manuel Orantes, Martina Navratilova, Rod Laver, Arthur Ashe, Roger Federer and Steffi Graf. To select just one as the greatest is a hard task, and therefore it is important to judge how each stands out from the rest. For instance, Ilie Nastase became renown, because he was a spanish tennis player, and the Spanish love a showman like Ilie Nastase. Consequently, he became the most fascinating player of Spain.

Arthur Ashe, due to the color of his skin, was forced to endure racism from the Americans, who did not want to have anything in common with black people. It was a time when black people could not even use the facilities of some country tennis clubs. All this did not discourage him. He worked hard at the game and was soon able to become the best player in the country.

If you classify by the Grand Slams won, you can't omit Rod Laver. He won 4 Grand Slams in only one year in 1962 and again in 1969. He is an amazing shot maker. He could face any complex situation with spectacular moves and with the least expected shot.

If we were to look at the players of the past, then we will surely think of Lew Hoad. He won each match with the smallest score. His hits would be the hardest. Then you may think of the unbeatable Pancho Gonzales. He almost never failed. Nevertheless, when he did, he always remained optimistic of a win in the next game.

Pete Sampras and Roger Federer are both remarkable tennis players of great skill and impeccable manners, on and off the court. While Sampras has 14 Grand Slams on his account, Roger Federer has scored 16 Grand Slam wins under his belt.

Coming to women, we could list Margaret Court, Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graff. All of them are professionals. Their play is relentless and they provided top-level shows for their fans. Fluid movements combined with sharp play marks Maria Ester Bueno from Brazil. She is the most elegant player to grace the tennis courts. Moreover, she has charmed the public with her beauty. To this list, you can also add Roger Federer. Steffi Graf is a very tasteful loser. She tops the list of best players. Even her failures attributed to ill health are acknowledged by her with grace.

A variety of tennis tournaments are organized each year. There is the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. In tennis, the players get classified in according to the way they play the game and by the number of wins that they get. This is a list that is announced to the media later.

The players are classified based on the number of games that they have played and the period of their career along with the number of wins. Thus, ranking alone can never be the only source of assessing their levels. Consequently, if you have played only for a short time, then you will find your name at the bottom of the ranking. However, if you have had a lot of playing years, your name will rise near to the top the list. Therefore, the list will not show, who the best player is and neither is it sufficient to find out who the best tennis player of all time is.
