Three Tips for New Golf Players

By Andrew Hoffmann

Golf is one of those addictive games that can be amazingly fun or intensely frustrating. Once you have mastered the game, it's fun, but if you are practicing day in and day out and can't seem to improve your game, frustration kicks in. Don't give up though; make these changes in the way you play your game instead.

The first step to making your golf game better is to ensure that you have the correct equipment. This does not mean that you have to own the most expensive equipment out there. To be quite honest, if you are new to the game, you should get the least expensive clubs you can find. These should come from a somewhere like a garage sale until you can determine which clubs fit your style of playing. For instance, if you want a light club that is simpler to swing, then you should purchase clubs with graphite shafts. But you must understand that the least expensive are steel shaft clubs. The only true method for selection the proper golf clubs is to test them, even if it means that you have to borrow your friend's golf clubs on while on the golf course. Once you have figured out which clubs suit you, then you can invest in a customized set of professional golf clubs.

If you're wearing a tight jacket, you won't be able to swing far enough for those long shots you love to watch on television. Also, it is essential that you understand what each golf club does it you really want to play the game right. For instance, a golfer uses a driver to get the most distance and can send a ball hurling as far away as 230 yards for the average man and 200 yards for a woman. A 7 iron is utilized for shorter distances of about 140 yards for a man and 120 yards for a woman. As you can probably imagine, if you don't know your clubs, you're never going to be able to play a good game of golf. If you don't know enough about your clubs to know that an 8 iron will not hit a ball no more than 130 yards and not 200 yards, you will be highly upset when you cannot make your shot.

A good grip is critical to playing a good game of golf. If you do not learn how to do it perfectly in the very beginning, it will be a lot harder to fix in the later years. You might not even see that your grip is not right. You'll be frustrated that your game doesn't seem to be improving, no matter how long you practice. Do not forget that you should never grip the club to firmly. As a matter of fact, you should do the opposite and give the club a light grip.

This leads to them second-guessing themselves. As a result, they are so afraid that they are going to make a mistake that it turns into a self fulfilling prophecy. So in order to avoid this, think about the shots you will be making. You will discover that your game improves two fold. So, as you have seen, turning into a good golf player is just as essential as playing the game itself. However, no matter what anyone tells you, it is vital that you believe in yourself because with practice and hard work, anyone can play a great game of golf.
