Tips On How To Practice For California Cycling Tours

By Wendi Osborne

If you plan to participate in California cycling tours next year, you will have to prepare for it months before. You will have to spend countless hours on your bicycle seat. This will help condition your body for the tours. Cycling for hours can make you feel sore till you get used to it again.

Your mind and body need to get friendly again with your bike. You can start this endeavour by biking around the neighborhood where traffic is low. Practice riding for half an hour about five times a week at a relaxed pace. Try playing around with various gears and hand positions on the handle bars.

You should ride longer on weekends in more spacious areas with various terrains. Pick roads with more challenge like streets that go up and down or curve to the left or right. Practice changing your gears every so often, especially when terrain changes. Record the distance you cover each time you take a ride on your bike.

Once you achieve reaching 10 miles per hour on your bike, increase the challenge by extending your ride to an hour and a half. Try to do 15 miles on more time. Continue adding more time and miles to your practice rides once you get comfortable with the new targets.

Try to maintain 3 hour rides covering 30 miles per ride. Add some resistance to your training by riding in rolling hills or streets with steeper inclines. You can also add more resistance to your ride by loading your bicycle with picnic supplies that weigh about 10 to 15 pounds.

Eat your picnic food after an hour or an hour and a half and then continue biking back to home base. Increase your daily time and miles until you reach the same numbers required in your California cycling tours. Practice daily or at least 6 days a week and also get sufficient rest. california cycling tours
