What Amateurs Can Learn From Golf Pros - Golf Swing Speed

By Paige Thompson

Why can't an amateur golfer compare with the professional? After all, they use the same golf paraphernalia. It is the technique and power behind the golf club. When making a drive towards the greens, the force of the swing is known as the swing speed or the club head speed. This is one of the basic golf strokes that an amateur player should learn at the start of his golf lessons. He should understand that the key is higher club speed and not the power behind the swing. What is known as the club head speed is what makes the pro a superior player than the amateur. Realistically however, the difference is the money winnings of the professional.

Develop Your Golf Swing Speed Skill

The speed the ball travels with after it's hit doesn't correspond with how hard you swing the club. The amateur should understand that the proper swing is not about the power of the stroke and the angle in which the club hits the ball, and on the contrary may even cause him to slice or hook the golf ball. The new player will have to understand this principle before he can practice doing the right technique of the golf swing speed that is the key to his becoming a competent golfer. One of the easiest ways of improving your club head speed is by changing your stance as you address the ball.

The amateur player must understand that the body is unfamiliar with the different golf postures and movements, and he will have a lot of practicing and adjustments to do in order to attune the body to the rigors of the game. Practicing the correct posture is the hard part, but once you have perfected it the rest will all be downhill. A good trainer is ideal to get the basic of swing techniques down. Golf is a tough sport to be self learned, unlike learning to play an instrument there are some movements you just can learn on your own.

There are numerous training aids and DVD's which can also teach you exercises, techniques and help guide you along the correct path. Keep watching your progress so that you will know that you are doing the right kind of training and preparation. If you can manage to correct your swing technique, that can translate into lower scores that will signify your improvement as a player.

Until you get the correct exercises down and begin to practice the correct things you'll find it difficult to break through from a beginner to advanced or intermediate golfer. This brings to light the need for doing the right kind of practices and exercises with the assistance of golf teacher and referring to training manuals and/or videos. Remember it's not about strength or how quick you can swing that golf club, it's about technique, consistency, and a smooth transition through your swing to generate high golf swing speed.
