By Jack Hobson

For different poker games players are using different types of bets, and small variations in etiquette exist between poker rooms, but for the most part the following rules and protocol are observed by the almost all poker players. One thing dozens of people like to do is tinker with things. For this reason, many versions of poker games and rule variations exist. We all consider poker to be a great game but over the years, participants modified the rules just a little to make the game more fascinating to them, the most common changes we're accepted by everyone and became new games in their own right. While there are many variants of poker, there are generally 3 top level variations - Draw Poker, Stud Poker, and Community Card Poker.

Among them, draw poker is probably the one you're most familiar with. In this game, you receive a complete hand before any bets are made. These cards are hidden from the other gamblers. Then by replacing a certain number of cards you improve your hand.

Normal Five-card Draw is a great example of draw poker. Then, another is stud poker is a variation of poker where you get a mix of face-down and face-up cards. This means participants know some of the cards in your hand, but not all of them. Five-card stud is an example of Stud poker. Another one is the community card poker is where your hand is combined with shared face-up cards. For example, if there are 2 aces in the community hand then everyone has two aces in their hand. That can create for some players interesting situations, and also makes for others to have a very strong hand.

Rule variations aren't specific to their own game, but an advanced set of rules belong to specific games. The Draw Poker game California Lowball is a good example of this. Other rule versions may include wild cards where some specific card can be changed to any card you need. When he deals, Big Tony might say Deuces wild, meaning if you get a deuce, it can replace any card, thus two jacks and a deuce are considered to be 3 jacks. Twist rules allow a participant to buy cards from the deck. If they can afford it, gamblers can continue to buy card after card until satisfied. This is a great way to add money to the pot and a great way to lose your shirt. Sometimes the number of cards used will be minimized , this is also known as Stripped deck. Poker was originally played with only 20 cards, and this is a way to honor our pastime.

Learning main rules of poker is essential in order for a participant to be able to hold their own at the table. Whether taking lessons, reading a book, or learning the basics through online play, continued perseverance will let even an amateur to be able to be a winner in a row with a little training.
