Is Online Poker Less Fair? - Useful Information and Advice

By Curtis A. Smith

For anyone who has tried playing online poker had for sure experience this kind of situation where someone seems to be too good in the game and someone is playing effortlessly but at the end still wins no matter what. Often, this situation results to a chat window full of people complaining about something's wrong with the game, for it will never happen in the real life poker.

There is no concrete evidence as to the issues of cheating that is involved in the world of online poker. Some says it's not true because there is no actual proof against it but then there are also some who would strongly believe it's true. Of course, this would be the people who almost consistently have their bad lucks during the game. It's pretty obvious in the real world of how most people would react every time they would lose the game and just can't simply accept it.

When it comes to the odds of online poker though, nothing is different. Poker sites are built around the idea of emulating the real world poker scenario and therefore they keep everything the same. Whatever the odds are of drawing a certain card when in a casino are the same odds when playing on the internet.

There are reasons though as to why there seem to be more bad beats when playing online. The big one is that there are more hands being played. The rate of play in an online poker room is usually double that of a game in the brick and mortar world. A lot of the time it's even more than that. In an hour of online poker you may see more hands than you would have after a few hours in a casino.

For this reason, online poker has greater possibilities for bad beats. Consider a statistic stating that out of ten hands playing, one of these will result to a bad beat. If a casino could have the possibility of one bad beat an hour, having it online could have it doubled or more. This would mean that online poker could even result into two or three bad beats an hour.

Since there is a notable increase in the number of players of online poker that willing to take the chance of winning and losing, opportunities for having bad beats also increases. Others may know the risk well but then still chooses to pursue the game hoping for a big profit and there are others also who have no idea on the risks that that they are taking at all. But because playing on casinos is more pressuring than just playing it online, online poker is still preferred by many.

Paying on poker rooms is a way more expensive choice than just doing it online. Many people still take the risk of online poker because they would rather gamble at their own homes and at their own convenience than do it in too costly casinos.

There is also the simple psychology behind this that makes people willing to believe that they are being cheated. At a real poker table there are dealers and players and physical cards, and our brains can process this quite easily. Online though none of these things actually exist so it's easy to let ourselves believe things aren't stacked fairly.

You can never totally wipe cheating that is happening online out of everybody's mind since it has already been widely known. But then, the above reasons are also always possible so it will be a wise choice to consider it first before complaining much.
