Important Consideration Before Buying Running Gear

By Jacquie Cattanach

A lot of times people think that running is an expensive sport, but the truth is that this isn't the case. With running you really don't need that much specialized gear. The few things that you do need however can make quite a difference in how you are going to feel when running. Let's have a look at those things that you are going to need and some things that should be avoided so that you can enjoy your running experience.

Getting The Right Pair Of Shoes

The most important thing that you are going to buy is shoes and this may really be the only specialized piece of gear that is necessary to buy. You should primarily be looking for comfort when trying on running shoes. Another thing you should remember is that you don't have to go after the most expensive shoes. You should find some shoes that can withstand the strain of long runs. You don't need anything eye catching and fancy on your shoes.

You need to throw out the old shoes when you are running because you need the support of new shoes. Your feet must be able to be supported and need to suit your foottype. This rings true for beginner runners which have feet that are not accustomed to harsh treatment and they need a bit more protection.

Finding Comfortable Running Clothes

Comfort is the keyword when it comes to running, be it in shoes or in clothes. Just as your shoes are important your apparel too is important. It is not uncommon to find beginners going overboard and overdressing, only making their whole running experience more uncomfortable for themselves. They start sweating too much, get too hot, lose pace and basically make the whole experience unpleasant, not something that you need when you start running.

Clothes That Need to be Avoided When Running

You still see people running in cotton T-shirts. While cotton is a good material to wear against your skin, you should also realize that the very fact that makes it so good, also makes it a bad choice. Cotton absorbs all your sweat, becomes stiff and will start chaffing after some time. When runners run with sleeveless garments, it is for this reason, as the arm pits are the first place to get affected. Wearing light, specialized running garments is what you should do.

Every Season Of Running Clothes

You are going to need different clothes for each season. In the summer you can get away with running in light airy materials but that isn't going to work when it comes down to winter time. Just because the season has changed and it's either hot, cold or raining, there is no need to adjust your running schedule. Continuing to run is important, you just need to make sure that you wear the right clothes.

When it is winter you should shy away from heavy garments. Wearing layers is a much better idea. This will allow you to shed layers if you start to feel too hot. You can wear your summer running clothes underneath but you will need to layer up on top. It could seem like a good idea to wear a heavy sweatshirt, but in all truth when you get about 5 minutes into the run you are going to be very uncomfortable and hot and unless you want to take off your big sweater and freeze there is nothing that you can do about it.
