By Mira Poon

Living in comfort for a long time does not mean you won't have to overcome a calamity in the future. Living under a rock and thinking that nothing shocking will ever occur will not only make it harder for your family to cope during a disaster situation, it will also keep you from really planning for the catastrophe. Many people don't bother learning survival techniques because they think a war that could drive them from their homes will never come about again.

The Evolution of War Tactics

You need not go as far as to self-study military tactics, although they can help you a great deal if something like planet war three happens. But you can start by being interested about disaster management and disaster management. In this day and age, war isn't just about plundering homes and collecting hostages; it is about bombs going off in most important cities. If there's a bomb threat, you won't be able to go to the store fast enough to get all the equipment you need to survive inside a shelter.

Everybody Could Use Preparedness Training

Some people mistakenly think that one has to be a soldier to learn the fundamentals of assembling survival kits and zip guns. You will have no military escort as you trek to the evacuation site. You may have to travel on foot to find a safe place where you can stay until you can go to a much safer area. In a disaster situation, a "safe place" does not automatically mean a comfy area. Usually, it's an emergency shelter built to accommodate a large cluster of evacuees. You won't have access to comfortable places for a few days until the calamity blows over.

Survival Bags for Each Family Member

Families who panic due to lack of preparation are less able to survive a bombing . If you are ill-equipped to cope with a crisis, you will not have any idea what to bring with you to the disaster shelter. What you can do now is to prepare a survival bag for everyone. You can also begin familiarizing yourself with the concepts of stick combat just in case you need to protect your family against predators and thieves. Plan for what you need to stay alive until the rescuers haul you out from the crisis area. In addition, think about what you can bring to draw the attention of rescue teams to your current spot. Being ready is better than being apologetic that you didn't prepare anything.
