Tennis Team Apparel Then And Now

Since the progress of the game, there have been several modifications that are applied to tennis team apparel and the rules of the sport. The change in rules and guidelines has also changed how the players move during the game and how the pastime is played. The major changes are necessary to keep up with the changes made and the necessary adjustments in methods and tactics.

In the days immediately after the maturity of the activity, the outfits used in playing the hobby are dependent on the current style and style. However, because of the rising popularity of the sporting events, there is also the need for alterations. At present, the garments used in tennis has developed a fashion of their own and provides for easy movement of the athletes.

Tennis was first played by monks using the hands. The monks that participate in the activity wear the habit that identifies their order. Once it has become popular, it began to be a mainstream sport and men and women both joined the ranks of the participants.

The early rules of the activity have no specific provision for the proper attire to wear during the event. Thus, people use the clothes they wear everyday in playing. Since most of the early players belong to the upper class, the common clothes during sporting events follow the current style and designs. This is carried over to the first Wimbledon tournament where men still when male competitors wore long pants and shoes with soft soles.

The attire of women athletes have also evolved. Before, women dress up in bundles of fur and full length skirts. This clothing has become so restrictive and heavy to carry around the court. That is why many females refrained from competing until the next evolution happened that raised the edging to above the knee.

The color choice has also evolved with the changing fashion. The most popular color, white, was chosen for a single reason. It hides easily any trace of sweat. From then on, white is always associated with the match. However, advancements in technology have also changed popular color choices. Now, technologically advance cloths are capable of whisking away sweat. This results to the different colored dress used by tennis players.

The game evolution is the main reason for the evolution of attire style and color. Modifications in the rules on how the game is played requires for agility in movement of the participants. These led club members to request that clothing that does not restrict should be allowed for use in events.

The modern age has brought many changes in the design and functionality of the clothing. However, a basic fact on the clothing style remains. Men and women athletes still dress different from each other, the more prominent of which is the more revealing attire of the women tennis players.

Attires for men now allow shorts and shirts. Skirts and tops for women are made for first for functionality than style. Long hemlines are now outdated. Women players are more comfortable in wearing polo shirts and sleeveless tops than furs. The big difference between the attires then and now only shows that there is indeed evolution in tennis team apparel worn by athletes.
