Commuting to Work on a City Bike

By Mike Sherman

There are so many benefits to riding your city bike to work rather than going by car, bus, or train. It will help your wallet, your health, the environment, and could even save you time depending on the distance that you have to travel. You will definitely be able to enjoy your commute more. City bikes are made to take on all that urban roads will throw your way.

There's no doubt that commuting by on your bike will save you money. The only thing that is tough about that is your wallet may weigh you down when you're riding. Gas prices now are crazy and add on to that how much it costs to maintain a vehicle. In this economy, that is tough to take on. It costs about $120 annually to own a bike whereas it costs over $5,000 per year to own a car. That's is without even taking into account how much mileage and wear you avoid on your car so you can prolong it's usefulness.

Your health will also benefit from riding your bike to work. You can kill two birds with one stone because your cardio work for the day is done. Your stress levels and your chances of getting heart disease are both reduced by riding a bike. It will aid you in burning calories and building muscle.

The environment would also benefit from people commuting to work on their bikes. There would be a lot less noise and air pollution that typically come from a car. In addition, there wouldn't be as much road work and construction necessary. Global warming also would be as much of a problem due to the lower amounts of carbon dioxide in the air.

Lastly, riding your bike to work can save you time. You don't have to deal with sitting in traffic or trying to find a place to park. Riding your bike is the perfect way to get to work if you are in a city. Then you can rub it in to all your colleagues who complain about how long it takes them to get to work.
