Three Most Popular Concealed Carry Holsters

By Dustin Aaron

Once you make the choice to wear a concealed carry pistol, you need to answer a few questions. You need to decide what type of firearm you will buy, where on your body will you wear it, and the type of holster will you carry it in.

Inside the Waistband holsters are affixed to your belt using either metal clips or loops, and can be located in any position around your waist. This model holster allows only the handle of your gun to sit above the waist. An inside the waistband holster gives excellent concealment and rapid access to your firearm. These holsters generally require you to leave your shirt un-tucked, however, there are a few inside the waistband holsters that allow you to tuck your shirt in.

There are also outside the waistband holsters that are incredibly similar to inside the waistband holsters, the only difference being that they are worn on the outside of your jeans. Outside the waistband holsters are not easy to hide and typically you need to wear them with a jacket, vest, or over-sized shirt. An advantage to wearing an outside the waistband holster is that you don't have to buy larger pants.

There are also small of the back holsters that are fantastic for hiding large caliber pistols, but these are also quite slow to access if you are driving an automobile. Small of the back holsters have garnered a terrible reputation for being the cause of numerous spinal injuries. If you fall on your back while wearing a large handgun against your spine, you are going to incur serious spinal injuries. Consequently, several law enforcement agencies have restricted their members from wearing these types of holsters.

After you make the wonderful decision to carry a concealed firearm, make sure you buy the best possible holster. Be absolutely sure that your holster comes from a quality manufacturer and that it is comfortable to wear everyday. Some of the best manufacturers are: Don Hume Leather Goods, Blackhawk, Galco, and De Santis. You also have the option of having your own holster custom made to your specifications. A custom made holster ensures that you have the best possible fit and comfort level. El Paso Saddlery and A Touch of Yellow Leatherwerkes are two great custom made holster manufacturers. Most custom made holsters are quite similar in price to other mass made holsters, the major difference is that custom holsters take a little more time to make.
