A Commuter Bike May Be Getting a Pit Stop

By Rob Sutter

It seems like Missoula, Montana is about to get something that will help anyone who rides a commuter bike. Think about how many gas stations that there are in the world. While traveling by automobile is far more prevalent than bike riding to get from place to place, should the latter be left out entirely? Apparently, the folks within Montana did not think so and it seems like the residents are about to receive something that may change the commuting lifestyle forever.

Commuter biking is about to become home to a new endeavor and this is referred to as the Downtown Bike Den, which is a section of the Mountain Line Downtown Transfer Center. Cyclists will find plenty to like about this because it serves as a station for bicycle storage and repair to take place. KPAX also stated that display cases would be present so that people could attain the best commuting information to be had. The success is very much present and who's to say how long it will take before people eventually utilize bicycles as opposed to cars for the long haul?

Forming a stop station for cyclists wasn't the extent of this movement, though. On the contrary, any person who uses a commuter bike proudly is going to see public travel will be altered to accommodate. The story posted on KPAX's website stated that bus lines which were controlled by Mountain Lion will begin to change around the biking craze. Instead of the standard two-slot bike racks that were once planted on the bus, Missoula natives will see an upgrade in three-slot racks. With more residents taking to biking as their method of travel, the alterations have to be made and these have not gone unnoticed by bike authorities the likes of Linus.

These bike racks are going to be especially helpful in terms of this movement. Thirty bike racks and counting are going to be placed along bus stops located in the city, giving cyclists more of an incentive to ride. This particular city seems to be shaping into a haven of sorts for bicyclists and these racks seem almost mandatory to accommodate. These many bike racks are set to be used in the spring of 2013, being made possible because of a grant totaling $133,744 thanks to the Federal Transit Administration.

People have been taking up commuter biking for a number of reasons. Not only is a great way to stay fit but it allows for less emissions typically brought about by excessive automobile usage. It's nice to see that these cyclists are being treated kindly for their dedication, though. These very people can enjoy the additions made by Mountain Lion and new cyclists will find the convenience of these new stop stations more of a reason to stick around.
