Non-traditional Types of Concealed Carry Holsters

By Dustin Aaron

This article will introduce you to several types of non-conventional holsters for carrying a concealed weapon that have only recently become available. The following holsters are an excellent choice if you do not want to wear an inside the waistband or outside the waistband holster.

A shoulder holster is very simple to disguise. Shoulder holsters are popular with plain clothes police officers and other law enforcement types who wear a suit everyday. These holsters are also worn beneath a shirt, but will be difficult to access. A shoulder holster is incredibly comfortable and allows you to comfortably carry a large firearm by distributing the weight evenly across your shoulders.

Fanny packs are another option of concealed carry. You can procure a pack purposely designed to carry your pistol that has an inner compartment just for your gun. There will typically be a Velcro strap to pull away for fast access. Most people would not consider wearing a fanny pack, but they can be a sensible option for anybody who is an avid jogger.

Concealment underwear has entered the marketplace recently. They are simply a pair of underwear with a pocket for your gun. These are another option for the jogger or someone who prefers to wear a firearm while they engage in physical activity. They can be fast to access as long as you are not sitting down.

Belly band holsters can serve as an excellent alternative for concealed carry. Belly band holsters are simply a stretchy band that encircles your stomach and contains a small pocket to hold your firearm. You must wear a loosely fitting shirt when you use a belly band holster, but they do allow you to tuck your shirt in. These kinds of holsters are typically best suited for carrying bigger pistols.

Ankle holsters are a great choice for alternative concealment, but they don't allow for fast access to your gun and are generally reserved for backup weapons. Several law enforcement agents use an ankle holster to carry their backup gun. These holsters are extremely popular with SWAT members for their secondary weapons. A wonderful advantage of the ankle holster is that you can hug your family without them realizing that you are carrying.

Once you decide to carry a concealed handgun, you might want to consider using one of these non-traditional holsters instead of the more popular options. Just be sure that purchase an alternative holster that allows you to wear your firearm comfortably at all times.
